Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process based on using of intelligent 3D models. Using this technology specialists in architecture and construction can more efficiently plan, design, build and operate buildings, constructions and infrastructural objects.
The use of ready-made catalogs allows to drastically speed up the process of model creation, to get the correct specifications and draw up project and working documentation according to regulatory standards.
IM Consult develop and support catalogs of 3D elements for software package AVEVA. This allows AVEVA clients to use the most recent electronic library of equipment for construction of engineering objects using manufacturer’s products.
Catalogs are the basis of the project. The main part of a model consists of catalog elements, hence its vital to provide the absence of errors in the geometric component for correct display and object collision evaluation as well in the descriptive part – for correct output of reports.
The use of AVEVA’s ready-made catalogs allows:

- Reduce the possible errors in design
- Quickly and qualitatively make the necessary changes
- Use the recent library of manufacturer’s products
- Get the correct documentation according to regulatory standards
Catalog creation process
The first stage of creation of catalog elements database in AVEVA Paragon is the collection, preparation and verification the necessary information. Initial data might include standards, specifications, data sheets, technical task, questionnaires, item drawings etc. The structure of the future catalog and the identification of catalog elements are developed at this stage.
The next stage is creation of catalog components. For each component with unique geometric shape regardless of standard of material, a corresponding element is created in database. In the future, each element is assigned with required number of attributive information sufficient for correct work of catalog component. Amount of information may vary depending on purposes and tasks of project.
After the element geometry is formed and all necessary attributive information is assigned, the specifications are formed, which the end user will use in the course of his work.
To make sure that catalogs and specifications work properly, at the final stage a full check of formed element database in various modules of AVEVA software package is performed.
